Cub Scouts Law

Cub Scouts always do their best,
Think of others before themselves,
And do a good turn every day.

Cub Scouts Promise

I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to God and to the King,
To help other people,
And to keep the Cub Scout Law.

Age

Cub Scouts are girls and boys aged between 8 and 10 1/2, who make up the third section of the Scouting family, between Beavers and Scouts.

Structure and Organisation

A Pack of Cub Scouts is organised into smaller groups of six called Sixes. Each Six is named after a colour with a Sixer and a Seconder in charge.

The recommended maximum size of a Cub Scout Pack is 36 Cub Scouts.

Meetings

2nd Mortlake runs two Cub Packs – one meets on Wednesdays from 5.45pm – 7.15pm and the other meets on Thursdays from 6.00pm – 7.30pm.

Activities

During their time in the Pack, Cub Scouts will have many adventures – telling stories by torchlight, falling asleep beneath the stars, spending time in the great outdoors –  building a den in Richmond Park, or creating an edible raft out of sweets, or going on a moonlit hike through Sheen. And even though they might not be ready to climb Mount Everest just yet, they’re guaranteed to have plenty of adventures, because being a Cub is all about making the most of what they have, wherever and whoever they are.

Learning new skills

Cubs learn by doing,  some of the skills they develop will be practical, like knowing how to cook a delicious meal or give someone first aid. Others will allow them to become a master at their chosen hobby, or help them to succeed in whichever job they decide to do when they grow up. But the most important skills they’ll learn at Cubs are the ones that will make them feel confident and happy in their own skin. We call these character skills, and they include things like integrity – which means being honest and doing what you think is right – and initiative – which means knowing how to take the lead on something without being asked. Whatever skills you’d like to learn, it’s all about having the courage to try new things and learn from them.

Helping others

Cubs work as a team to help other people. Together, they’ll learn about global issues and what we can all do to help solve them. They’ll also make an impact in their own community, through activities such as collecting donations for a food bank, clearing litter or planting trees in a neighbouring park.
